While we're all enjoying the podcasts we love and thinking about the next episode we might start, the developer behind that great app might be struggling to put food on the table or pay another developer for help.
Every single podcast application we use costs money to run, develop, and submit to app stores. These apps often start as passion projects but quickly attract users who need support.
For many of these open-source projects, they occasionally receive help from another developer, but eventually, they realize that they need to recode the entire app to better serve you, the listener, and the podcast creators.
By launching PodFund, PodToo will give back and support the community that makes what we do possible.
It's no secret that podcast hosting providers generate revenue, and it's time for us, the hosting providers, to come together and lend a helping hand.
Whether your podcast player has 5 users or 100,000 users, we want to help in the best way we can by supporting applications that meet our minimum requirement of 5 Podcast 2.0 features.
Your talent needs to be recognized because without your work, our creators would have nowhere to go other than the major players. Our creators wouldn't have V4V, Video, People Tags, ActivityPub/Nostr, and many other Podcast 2.0 features. In fact, without you, our creators wouldn't have a community.
Now here the best thing about a community, we can only do PodFund if we have creators hosting with us, and publishing their content through PodToo.
However even though we are less than 12months old, and we are not the size of the others. We are committing a minium of $100AUD each month to the PodFund until we pass that amount based on customer spend.
We understand that it's not much, and we wish it was more. We have to start somewhere though. To podcast creators who read this, if you're hosting for free maybe think about jumping onto PodToo and know that a little bit of your hosting costs is going to keep players going and help your listeners connect with your show.
Together we can create a communuty that supports everyone.
If you're a Podcast 2.0 Player or a developer of a Podcast 2.0 player, you can apply if:
- Your Player MUST be listed on Podcastindex.org
- You don't offer Podcast Hosting.
- You have 5 or more Podcast 2.0 features.
- You are not owned by a larger entity (ie: Spotify, iHeart etc)
- You understand that if you mislead about a feature on podcastindex.org, we will terminate your participation in PodFund.
- By filling out the form on the right, you agree you have the authority to act on behalf of the Podcast Player app.
